The county clerk is the custodian of all county records and whose statutory responsibility is to maintain all records in an organized manner and accessible for public inspection. The records in the custody of the county clerk go back to the establishment of the county, 1846. To date, the county clerk maintains in excess of one-billion documents and records of the county.

The Central Records Division maintains all closed records from the courts (Civil, Probate, Criminal and Truancy). This also includes our historical record books from our deed records, Commissioner’s Court and Probate divisions. The Central Records Division also maintain our historical records stored on microfilm.

Our Central Records Division maintains offices at three (3) locations. The George Allen Courts Building, Frank Crowley Criminal Courts Building and our records storage facility Cottrell/Hernandez Records Center.
